MINISTER FOR WOMEN – WOMEN AND WAR - 06 March 2003

Dr Julian Lewis: In endorsing what the right hon. Lady [Minister for Women, Patricia Hewitt] says, may I remind her that there is also a long and very honourable tradition of women playing heroic parts in the wars that have had to be fought throughout the 20th century in order to preserve the freedoms that they were fighting to win when they fought for the vote?

[Ms Hewitt: The hon. Gentleman is absolutely right. Many of us have female, as well as male relatives who played their part in both world wars in particular.]
