EDUCATION – GRAMMAR SCHOOLS - 20 October 1999

Dr Julian Lewis: I thank the hon. Gentleman [Phil Willis] for his courtesy in giving way. Does he agree that, if parents are to make a genuine decision in a genuine ballot, the wording on the ballot paper should itself be genuine? Is he satisfied that the wording is genuine? If so, can he explain why – as I understand it – the words "grammar schools" do not appear anywhere in any wording proposed for any ballot?
