Dr Julian Lewis: In the spirit of modernisation, may we have a joint statement from the right hon. Member for Banff and Buchan (Alex Salmond) – explaining why he wants a referendum that he would almost certainly lose – and the Prime Minister, explaining why he wants to stop a referendum which, unlike one on the Lisbon Treaty, he would almost certainly win? If they have difficulty producing that joint statement, I am sure that Wendy Alexander will be happy to help in the drafting of it.
