Lymington Times – 17 November 2017
It was a pleasure to read the fine tributes to the late Ken Thornber in your coverage, last week (November 10). Ken was a towering figure in Hampshire public life. His commitment was truly outstanding; his grasp of detail was phenomenal; and his powers of expression were formidable.
Above all, Ken was “a good man in politics”, who would take the closest personal interest in the New Forest East constituency cases which I and my staff referred to Hampshire County Council. I was often amazed by his ability to keep them all in mind, considering how many other Hampshire MPs were looking to him for help at any one time. We knew we could always count on his integrity and his wisdom.
New Forest East Conservatives can be proud that he served, not only as the first chairman of our Association when the seat was created in 1997, but also as our President in recent years too. We shall miss him hugely and we trust that his family and friends will draw comfort from knowing the great esteem in which he is, and always will be, held.
