EUROPE – ECONOMIC AND MONETARY UNION – 16 June 1998

Dr Julian Lewis: In his discussions on the reform of the European Union, has the Prime Minister taken into account the massive opposition to economic and monetary shown by British public opinion? In particular, is the Minister aware of the result of the Gallup poll published today, which shows that only 33 percent of the British people support the abolition of the pound and our entry into economic and monetary union, whereas 65 percent oppose it and only 2 percent are now undecided?
