Dr Julian Lewis: Does my right hon. Friend still subscribe to her excellent maxim that no deal is better than a bad deal, and does she ​acknowledge that locking ourselves into a customs union with the EU after Brexit would be a very bad deal indeed?

[The Prime Minister: I am very happy to confirm what I have always said: no deal is better than a bad deal. As regards being in a customs union, that means that we would not be able to negotiate our own trade deals around the rest of the world, and we want to be able to do that. As I saw last week at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, there is considerable interest around the rest of the world in being able to have those independent trade deals negotiated between other countries and the UK.]
