Dr Julian Lewis: The hon. Gentleman [Liberal Democrat Education Spokesman Don Foster] said that it is barbaric to use corporal punishment in schools. If it is barbaric for a teacher to slap an unruly child, is it also, in his opinion, barbaric for a parent to do the same?
