DEFENCE – DETERRENCE & THE FALKLANDS – 12 November 1998
Dr Julian Lewis: I, too, have a memory of those days, and far more of a signal was sent to the Galtieri regime by the irresponsible policies of unilateral nuclear disarmament and the parades held in favour of it by members of the party that is now in government, and especially by members of the hon. Gentleman's [Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock's] party at the time. The Argentines were perfectly surprised that Britain went to war in that atmosphere, for which the hon. Gentleman's party bears a great deal of the responsibility.
