Early Day Motions and Amendments

2004-5

[NOTE: Amendments are linked to the original EDMs which Julian amended.]

EDM 474 – 11 January 2005

MR HARRY ERRINGTON GC AND WARTIME FIREFIGHTERS

[This Motion was supported by 72 Members of Parliament.]

That this House salutes the passing of Harry Errington, the British-born son of Polish immigrants, who won the George Cross at the height of the London Blitz when, as a volunteer firefighter, he saved the lives of two trapped comrades in circumstances of great danger; recalls the sacrifice of over 300 firefighters who lost their lives in the London region alone; and pays tribute to all who manned the emergency services throughout countless attacks upon the United Kingdom during the Second World War.

EDM 188 25 November 2004

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER

[This EDM was tabled jointly with Shadow Constitutional Affairs Secretary Oliver Heald. It was supported by 91 Members of Parliament.]

That this House notes that the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster has completed just eight minutes at the Dispatch Box since his appointment in September; also notes that the Minister for the Cabinet Office has declined to reveal the sum earmarked by her Department to cover the cost of creating a separate Chancellor of the Duchy; further notes that previous holders of the post primarily engaged in election campaigning have not been paid a full Cabinet Minister's salary; and accordingly regrets the departure from precedent in the case of the Right Honourable Member for Darlington.
